What e-invoicing is

An invoice a tax system can read, not just a person.

A PDF invoice is a picture of a document: easy for people to read, hard for software. An e-invoice carries the same information as structured data — usually XML — with fixed fields for the seller, the buyer, each line, the VAT and the totals. UBL (Universal Business Language) is one of the most widely used formats for it.

More and more countries require businesses to issue e-invoices, and often to send them through a government platform so the tax authority receives a copy. Each country decides who has to comply, which format and platform to use, and from when, and those rules change over time.

Because the rules are national, e-invoicing compliance is never generic. Before you rely on any software for it, check your own tax authority's current requirements, or ask your accountant.

Supported countries

Where FocalHQ does e-invoicing today.

One card per country. A country appears here only once FocalHQ builds the invoice in that country's format and sends it to its platform.

Romania — e-Factura

Supported. Connect your ANAF account once, tick e-Factura on the invoice, and FocalHQ builds the UBL 2.1 XML (CIUS-RO) and uploads it to SPV when the invoice is sent. Details and limits on the [e-Factura](efactura) page.

Other countries — not supported yet

FocalHQ doesn't send e-invoices anywhere else today. If your country requires e-invoicing, you'll need another tool for it for now. New countries are added one at a time and will appear here when they are ready.

How e-invoicing works where it's supported.

  1. 1

    Connect the platform once

Authorise FocalHQ with the tax authority's platform using your own account. For Romania, that's ANAF's SPV.

  2. 2

    Write the invoice as usual

Use the same invoice you'd write anyway, and mark it for e-invoicing. The structured XML is generated from the invoice itself.

  3. 3

    Checked before it leaves

FocalHQ checks the fields the format needs — parties, VAT ID, lines, VAT categories — before anything is sent.

  4. 4

    Sent with the invoice

When the invoice is sent, the e-invoice is uploaded in the background and its status shows on the invoice.

UBL invoices

The structured invoice comes from the one you already wrote.

There's no separate e-invoicing screen to fill in and no mapping to maintain. The parties, lines, VAT categories and totals on your invoice become the UBL XML, so the PDF your client reads and the data the tax authority receives can't drift apart.

Everything else about invoicing stays the same: your templates, your numbering, multi-currency invoices and per-client defaults. If you run several companies, each one is connected and sent under its own identity — see multi-company.

E-invoicing is available on every plan that includes invoicing. See pricing.

Questions

E-invoicing in FocalHQ, answered plainly.

Which countries does FocalHQ support for e-invoicing?

Romania, through ANAF's e-Factura system. No other country is supported yet.

Is FocalHQ e-invoicing compliant in my country?

Only if your company invoices under Romania's e-Factura rules. For any other country, FocalHQ doesn't send e-invoices today, so it doesn't cover a local mandate.

Can I still use FocalHQ for invoicing outside Romania?

Yes. Invoicing works for companies anywhere: your own templates, multi-currency invoices and companies set up from the EU VAT registry. Only the e-invoicing submission is country-specific.

What format does FocalHQ use for e-invoices?

For Romania, UBL 2.1 following the national CIUS-RO specification, which is what e-Factura expects.

Will my country be added?

Countries are added one at a time. We don't publish dates until support is ready; this page is updated when a country is added.
