Where it came from
FocalHQ started as the back office of a small services company: outgoing invoices in one tool, supplier bills in an inbox, expenses photographed and forgotten, and vacation days kept in whoever's head was nearest. The first version was a set of scripts bolted to spreadsheets. It worked until the business outgrew it.
We rebuilt it as a proper product: a web app and a native iOS app on one API, with each area of the business — invoicing, expenses and trips, staff, vacations, documents — in its own service, and money stored to the cent rather than in floating-point numbers.
The questions it answers are the ones an owner asks every week: who owes us, what are we about to pay, where did the money go, and who is away.
